Number of compulsory-schooling-age Roma children attending education in the supported areas (age range depending on the country)
Definition and Methodology
This indicator measures the total number of Roma children within the compulsory school age range (typically 5–17 years, depending on national education laws) who have attended any form of formal education (pre-primary, primary, lower or upper secondary) in the areas supported by the Grants. The indicator counts each individual child once if they have attended school at any point during the Grants period, regardless of the number of days or frequency of attendance.
The target group includes Roma children aged 5–17 years or those within the country-specific compulsory school age range, residing in supported areas. Only attendance in formal education institutions (public or private) is included. This indicator reflects actual attendance (not just enrollment) and is cumulative over time.
The unit of analysis is the individual child within a Roma household. If a child is recorded as attending education during any data collection round within the reporting period, they are counted toward the cumulative total.
If your programme targets girls, consider making this indicator gender-specific. If not, this indicator should be disaggregated by self-reported gender (in non-binary terms): female / male / other / prefer not to say. Please see the Guidance on the use of the core indicators library.
