Number of courtrooms equipped with child-friendly facilities
Definition and Methodology
This indicator measures the total number of courtrooms in the supported jurisdictions that meet minimum standards for being child-friendly. These courtrooms are equipped with physical infrastructure and facilities designed to ensure safety, dignity, and comfort for children throughout judicial proceedings. Facilities may include, but are not limited to:
a. Separate and safe waiting areas for children;
b. Private rooms for testimony or interviews;
c. Child-appropriate furniture or design elements;
d. Audio-visual equipment for remote testimony (e.g., video links);
e. Signage and materials that are age-appropriate.
Courtrooms are counted under this indicator only if such facilities are operational, accessible, and used in practice, based on standardised assessment criteria or facility audits aligned with national and European/international child rights standards (e.g., UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Council of Europe Guidelines on Child-Friendly Justice).
