Number of freshwater habitats with improved ecological status
Definition and Methodology
Total number of rivers, lakes, wetlands, and other freshwater ecosystems (streams, ponds, marshes, swamps, bogs, fens, and groundwater aquifers) where ecological conditions have demonstrably improved with Grants' support.
Improvement should be assessed based on factors such as:
a. Water quality (e.g., reduced pollution, improved oxygen levels, decreased nutrient runoff)
b. Biodiversity recovery (e.g., increased populations of native fish, amphibians, and aquatic plants)
c. Habitat integrity (e.g., restored riverbanks, reconnected floodplains, improved wetland hydrology)
d. Ecosystem services (e.g., enhanced natural water filtration, improved groundwater recharge, increased carbon sequestration)
e. Climate resilience (e.g., better water retention, reduced drought impact, stabilized flow regimes)
