Number of marine habitats with improved ecological status
Definition and Methodology
Total number of marine ecosystems where ecological conditions have measurably improved with Grants' support. Saltwater habitats are marine ecosystems, including seas, oceans, estuaries, and coastal areas, that support diverse aquatic life adapted to saline conditions.
Improvement should be assessed based on criteria such as:
a. Water quality (e.g., reduction in pollutants, improved oxygen levels, decreased eutrophication)
b. Biodiversity recovery (e.g., increase in key marine species, healthier coral reefs, restored seagrass meadows)
c. Habitat integrity (e.g., reduced habitat degradation, recovery of spawning and feeding grounds)
d. Fisheries sustainability (e.g., replenished fish stocks, lower bycatch, improved management practices)
e. Climate resilience (e.g., reduced acidification, enhanced carbon sequestration by marine vegetation)
