Number of households with new or improved connection to electricity
Definition and Methodology
Total number of households that have received a new electricity connection - either from a national grid, mini-grid, or standalone energy system (such as solar home systems, small hydropower plant, wind turbine, generator operating with biofuel, biogas or solid biomass) - or have benefited from enhancements to their electricity supply with Grants' support. The system should provide enough electricity to cover lighting, phone charging, TV and fans requirements if needed.
Improved connection includes:
a. Upgrading from limited or unreliable access (e.g., intermittent supply) to a stable and higher-capacity connection.
b. Transitioning from off-grid or low-capacity systems (e.g., small solar kits) to a more robust energy source (e.g., mini-grid, national grid).
c. Enhancements such as better voltage regulation, increased supply hours, or improved service quality.
This indicator includes only household access to electricity; individuals gaining electricity access from firms and government institution buildings are excluded.
