Number of new or improved shelters/centres
Definition and Methodology
Total number of new or enhanced shelters or centers established or upgraded with Grants' support to assist a specified category of people (e.g., victims of domestic and gender-based violence, asylum-seekers, children, etc.) or to assist populations affected by, or at risk of, disasters. These service centres provide safe accommodation, essential or life-saving services, or targeted support to meet the needs of the identified population. The facilities can be newly constructed or established to address unmet needs for the specified group or can be upgraded or expanded to enhance capacity, quality of services, or safety standards. Newly-constructed or upgraded facilities may also serve as preparedness infrastructures, such as pre‑identified evacuation centres or multipurpose community shelters designed for rapid activation during emergencies. To count towards this indicator, the facilities need to be operational.
This indicator can be customised by target group or function, such as:
Number of new or improved shelters/centres for victims of domestic violence
Number of new or improved shelters/centres for asylum seekers, including unaccompanied children
Number of disaster‑resilient evacuation centres established or upgraded in high‑risk areas
Number of shelters adapted for vulnerable groups (e.g. women and girls, children, older persons, persons with disabilities)
Facilities like offices and training centres do NOT count towards this indicator as another indicator measures these.
