Annual number of cases of domestic and gender-based violence (DGBV) officially reported in the supported areas
Definition and Methodology
Total number of incidents of domestic and gender-based violence (DGBV) that are formally reported to relevant authorities (e.g., police, social services, healthcare providers) in the areas receiving Grants' support. It captures the level of reporting, which may reflect both the prevalence of such violence and the effectiveness of awareness, prevention, and support mechanisms in encouraging victims to come forward.
Domestic violence refers to any form of physical, sexual, psychological, or economic abuse occurring within a domestic or family setting, typically involving intimate partners, spouses, or other household members.
Gender-Based violence (GBV) encompasses harmful acts directed at individuals based on their gender, including domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking, forced marriage, and honor crimes. GBV disproportionately affects women and girls but can impact people of all genders.
Both forms of violence violate human rights and are rooted in power imbalances, societal norms, and discrimination.
'Officially reported' refers to cases formally documented by authorities, including police, legal systems, healthcare providers, or NGOs mandated to record such incidents.
This indicator tracks cases recorded within a single calendar year, ensuring consistency and comparability over time. Given that the unit of measurement is 'annual number', this indicator requires a baseline value.
If your programme targets women, consider making this indicator gender-specific. If not, this indicator should be disaggregated by self-reported gender (in non-binary terms): female / male / other / prefer not to say. Please see the Guidance on the use of the core indicators library.
