Number of law enforcement facilities equipped with child-friendly infrastructure
Definition and Methodology
This indicator measures the total number of law enforcement facilities in the Grants supported jurisdictions/areas that meet minimum standards for being child-friendly. These facilities are equipped with physical infrastructure and operational features designed to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of children during interactions with law enforcement.
Facilities may include, but are not limited to:
a. Separate and secure waiting areas for children;
b. Private, soundproof rooms for interviews or statements;
c. Child-appropriate furniture, colors, and design elements to create a non-threatening environment;
d. Audio-visual equipment to facilitate remote interviews or testimony (e.g., video links);
e. Age-appropriate signage, materials, and resources to assist communication.
Law enforcement facilities are counted under this indicator only if such infrastructure is fully operational, accessible, and used in practice, based on standardized assessment criteria or facility audits aligned with national and international child rights and gender equality standards (e.g., UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Council of Europe Guidelines on Child-Friendly Justice, UNODC Model Law on Justice in Matters involving Child Victims and Witnesses of Crime).
