Number of start-ups supported

Low Cumulative number

Definition and Methodology

Total number of newly established businesses that have received Grants' support, reflecting efforts to foster entrepreneurship and early-stage business growth. Start-ups refer to businesses in their early stages of operation, typically characterized by innovation, high growth potential, and a focus on developing a scalable business model. To count as a start-up (as opposed to a SME, covered under the indicator 'Number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) supported'), the business must meet all of the following criteria:

a. Has been registered less than 5 years ago, and,

b. Has not yet reached full market maturity or profitability.

Usually, start-ups are in high-growth, tech-driven, or innovative sectors but can be in any industry.

Start-ups are a subset of SMEs but focus specifically on early-stage businesses.

Support can include financial assistance, incubator or accelerator programmes, business development services, or access to investor networks.
