Estimated amount of waste that businesses reduced from production (tons)
Definition and Methodology
Total estimated quantity of waste (in tons) that businesses have prevented, minimized, or diverted from production processes with Grants' support through waste reduction strategies such as material efficiency, recycling, reusing byproducts, or adopting sustainable practices.
METHODOLOGY:
a. Define waste reduction: specify waste types (e.g., solid, hazardous, organic, packaging waste) and reduction methods (e.g., process optimization, material substitution).
b. Measure baseline waste: establish pre-reduction waste levels based on production records or industry benchmarks.
c. Track reduction efforts such as raw material efficiency (reduction in material use per unit of production); recycling and reuse (waste diverted from landfills through in-house reuse or external recycling); and process improvements (waste reduction through lean manufacturing, circular economy initiatives, or new technology).
d. Collect data: use self-reported business records, waste audits, or third-party verification.
e. Calculate reduction: compare current waste generation with baseline levels and express the reduction in tons.
f. Validate &and report: aggregate data from multiple businesses, adjust for anomalies, and report cumulatively every year.
